About

I’m three things: a dad, first and foremost; a newly qualified English teacher; and a writer of all sorts of styles.

Following a first-class creative writing degree, I worked as a copywriter and content strategist for two years at branding agency Nixon Design. I then did a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) in the further education and skills sector, teaching functional skills, GCSE and A-level English, where I developed a nascent but as-of-yet undernourished interest in linguistics. After teaching English at a secondary school for seven months, I decided to pursue a new career path… And then Covid hit.

On this site you’ll find a portfolio of some of my copywriting work, as well as poems, reviews, short stories and a whole bunch of other bits of writing. Most of the creative pieces are pretty old – and I’ve improved creatively, grammatically and orthographically over the last few years – but I hope to find the time to write for pleasure again soon.

I currently write regular currency articles for TorFX News, along with a range of blog posts, journalistic pieces and marketing copy for a range of publications and companies.

    1. Yeah, I’m really enjoying mine. There was very little creativity in my college years – wish my teachers then had been like yours in senior school! – so when I came to university it was refreshing to focus almost entirely on the creative aspect. Also it’s been a really good ratio of writing to literature studies (about 2:1) with a smattering of theory, and most of the assignments are linked so I’ve been able to apply what I’ve learnt from studying literature to my own writing. Most of all, I think it just gave me the structure and time to write and read as much as possible!
