The Last March

I have just read Scott’s journals from his Last Expedition. Truly fascinating and heart-breaking. Authentic, and intimate whilst being distant, almost detached. His voice is powerful, simple and straightforward, bleak and grimly determined, with moments of striking eloquence and emotion, even at the very end. His words are more evocative of their dire situation – their suffering, the deadly cold, their conflicts of inward despair and outward determination – than any fiction could be.
